As you all can see Mira (aka "chubs") has been doing quite well with the breastfeeding. As she will someday need to get her nourishment from a bottle it was suggested we introduce this to her in her 5th week of life. It is also suggested that the mom not give the bottle and perhaps not even be in the house....so this job fell to Justin. His first attempt on Sunday night did not go well. Mira seemed to say "What!?!?! A rubber nipple! I don't think so, mister!!!" and she then proceeded to cry for about 30 minutes. It probably didn't help that we have not been giving her a pacifier on a regular basis so she was not used to anything except the real thing. Monday night's attempt produced similar results. However, last night I left the house to walk the dogs and Justin said that she gulped down that bottle in about 1 minute!
(An aside to all the mommies to be that will be breastfeeding: buy a Bravado bra. They are the absolute BEST!!!! I am usually quite cheap (and these bras are not) but they are worth every penny!!!! And you'll be saving lots of money on formula anyway.
Mira has been doing a lot better with the uncontrollable crying, which means I won't be eating any milk, ice cream, yogurt or broccoli anytime soon. She still has her fussy periods but we can usually (eventually) calm her down, whether it by holding her, walking, or putting her in the swing. She is also much more wakeful that she used to be (although many of her waking hours she is still crying) and is starting to smile at times other than when she passes gas. She is a very intense baby and doesn't give us very much of a chance to figure out what she wants before she has a meltdown. I have also been starting to lovingly call her DQ, short for Drama Queen.
It has been quite cold here (I know, I know, not compared to Minnesota! But the low last night was 24 F!) and Miss Miriam is all bundled up for our morning walk.
Mira loves sleeping with her arms spread out wide. We went to the Grit last night for dinner and she actually had them raised up as well so she looked like she was directing an orchestra, eliciting lots of laughs from the waitstaff.
