Who knew blueberry picking was so painful?

This past week has been a tough one for the Wideners, especially Mira. Last week Mira got a cold and she can't seem to shake it. She had to come home from school early on Thursday and yesterday from school because she has been pretty miserable. On top of it all, I think she is teething. And the past 2 mornings have been quite dramatic as we switched sunscreens and have figured out that the new one really bothers her eyes. Tomorrow we have an appointment with the ENT to talk about tubes. I would not be surprised if she has an ear infection too!

My mom was supposed to come into town on Friday but unfortunately she couldn't make it on any flights. Maybe she will come visit the weekend Justin is on Block Island instead. We took advantage of the "free" weekend by spending some family time together on Saturday and then working on getting the girls' room in order with the remainder of our free time.

Our family time on Saturday was a bit of a fiasco. We got lost on the way to Washington Farms, where we had decided to go pick blueberries. Once we finally arrived it was late morning and pushing 95 degrees in the shade. The three of us picked blueberries together for about 15 min. and then Mira and I had to move to the playground in the shade.... Just when we had made that decision Mira and I realized we were standing in a fire ant hill and got stung pretty badly. Then on our way to the playground Mira wanted to visit the horses, which were behind an electric fence and she (and I) got zapped. She finally perked up a little on the swings and then ventured to the slide, where she totally wiped out and was then scared to go on it again. Poor little girl!!! Poor Justin as well--he continued to pick blueberries in the heat for over an hour and made it to almost 1 gallon.

We celebrated Abigail's 11th birthday with a blueberry cake. Mira didn't care much for the cake but LOVED the whipped cream!
