First Supper Club Meeting

We are the first hosts of a quarterly supper club that consists of 2 other "Waseca" couples and another couple that also has young children. Anyone who knows me knows that this is just up my alley. Got to use my crystal and my China and to plan a yummy menu! I was a bit hampered because Athens didn't have all the ingredients I needed, but I improvised a little. Most of my recipes were from the Highlands cookbook. Here it is:

Appetizers/drinks: Orange Thing; Bacon-wrapped, parm-reggiano stuffed dates; 3-cheese tray with apples, candied pecans, rhubarb jelly, apricots, and crackers

Salad: Dry cava, mixed spring greens with fresh dill, basil, and mint; sherry vinegarette; rolls

Main: red wine; roasted leg of lamb; leek bread pudding; asparagus and peas with basil

Dessert: coffee; Lil Jim's Pudding Cake

I saw something like this on Pininterest and had to try to replicate it. You can't see if very well, but the top of the vase has peeps!

Our mantle, all dressed up!

Jelly beans and burlap for the candle holders

Cheese tray 2. See the cute mouse Shu-shu got us?

Table setting

Azalias from our front yard. I wrapped burlap around Mason jars and then tied a little bow. I think it turned out pretty cute.

Now, I forgot to take pictures of the meal all plated up. I think it went pretty well. The lamb was on the rare side...but not inedible. The internal temp was actually about 10 degrees higher than they said to go. Oh well, we will know next time. I also made a BIG boo-boo with the cake. I lined the bottom of the rounds with wax paper but when I assembled the cake a FORGOT TO PEEL IT OFF! So each of the layers had both pudding and wax paper. YUCK. But we were able to salvage it for the most part. At least it made me just throw the remainder of the cake out so I won't be eating on it all week long!
